Let the Pencil’s Point Guide You

When I was young, around seven or eight or so, I remember being in school, and I got caught doodling on my work by a stern teacher. I remember being asked, "Why are you doodling on your handouts?" during class. I think the answer I came up with then, was "I don’t know.", but today it would definately be "Because I’m doodling." That day long ago I learned that you can sure piss people off by doodling on your handout assignments. I probably have that irate teacher to thank for my career as a designer. Doodling is something designers should do regularly…and try not to think about it too much, if at all, when you do. Focus on energy flow…breathe…relax…and let the pencil’s point guide you.

Being a designer is about doing more of what you like to do and less of what you don’t like to do.
