I started data-myne.com as an alternative to Digg after reading about the upheaval of the "Digg Mafia" controlling which articles made it to the front page. I found the idea of a website functioning as a Digg alternative compelling because it gave me a chance to experiment with the open source software Pligg, and a chance to tackle some unique and fun design challenges. I found The Bridge by browsing to one of my old friend's MySpace page, where I noticed the design had been altered and the link credit took me to the place where she made it. A novel concept behind the startup YouOS. YouOS is the web application that simulates the concept of using an operating system within your browser window. The idea is that you can be working on a document in area A, save it, arrive at area B and continue right where you left off. I signed up for an account and recieved a lengthy random password via e-mail. A humorous quote from a funny movie, Road Trip, made me giggle as I waited for the applet to bootup, which it does rather quickly under 5 seconds.

Monopoly is changing over to digital credit cards to manage the currency balance when playing the game. No more counting out cash and divying it up amongst your pals. Splendid. It does reflect the fact that our economy is no longer spurred on by gold bullion stashed away prodigiously in Fort Knox, but by lines of credit and balances of numbers with zeros behind them. Our entire economy is based on the world's trust in us.

Twttr.com looks promising. I don't have a bluetooth phone so it's not so easy for me to go through my Getro and backup my phone number list aka my social life. Fortunately everyone I communicate with has text messaging on their phones, a sign of the times. Now I have a reason to backup all my numbers, even if the people I add to my friend's list on twttr.com don't sign up for the service, I will have all their numbers backed up.

Empressr is a competitor to M$ Powerpoint that enables people to create striking rich-media presentations for free, and also store and access them online. Gotta love that logo, the name, the lack of the second-to-last-normally-necessary-but-this-is-web-two-point-oh E.

The slew of AJAX based Web 2.0 apps is seriously going to give M$ a run for their money in these upcoming years. Powerpoint needs progressive competitors anyways, it totally suxx0rz.
