I started data-myne.com as an alternative to Digg after reading about the upheaval of the "Digg Mafia" controlling which articles made it to the front page. I found the idea of a website functioning as a Digg alternative compelling because it gave me a chance to experiment with the open source software Pligg, and a chance to tackle some unique and fun design challenges.
